Former Light Infantry serviceman Jack Lister, 91, holds back the tears as he salutes his fallen comrades and remembers all that was lost, and gained, during the two world wars.
Mr Lister was joined by a group of veterans, members of the Dewsbury branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) and children from St Paulinus School at a service of dedication at the Garden of Remembrance in Longcauseway on Wednesday.
The event marked the beginning of this year’s Remembrance commemorations.
Branch secretary of Dewsbury RBL Karen Rourke said 30 children planted crosses in the garden after a service led by the Rev Elizabeth Lee from Dewsbury Minster. Fl Lieut Alan Cutis led the parade.
