Around 200 people gathered in the town centre to see the Christmas lights switched on.
Town mayor Coun David Pinder said: “It went very well despite the inclement weather. All the lights came on thanks to the lads putting them up on Saturday – they spent all day repairing bulbs that had popped in the rain.”
Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Gary Verity flicked the switch.
