THREE people were arrested when police burst into homes at dawn and found suspected illegal drugs.

The raids in London Park estate, Mirfield, came after officers spent the summer trying to combat anti-social behaviour in the area.

Four teams of officers left Dewsbury police station at 6.30am on Friday to search four separate council properties simultaneously.

Locksmiths were hired to let officers into houses in Oliver Gardens and Northway Gardens shortly before 7am. Police knocked before going into a house in Southway.

Two men aged 45 and 24 and a 17-year-old woman were arrested after suspected cannabis and M-CAT were found.

The older man was also arrested on suspicion of possessing criminal property. All three have been released on police bail.

Staff from Kirklees Neighbourhood housing were present for the raids to witness what was found in the council’s property.

The operation was made possible by the work done by PCs Gary Guy and Chris Bullock over the summer.

Insp Jenny Thompson said an increased police presence had reaped results and that there had been 23 arrests and two ASBO referrals prior to Friday’s operation.
