Three peaks beckon

A councillor is preparing to take on the famous national three peaks challenge for charity.

Coun Darren O’Donovan (Lab, Dewsbury West) will attempt to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scarfell Pike in the Lake District and Mount Snowdon in Wales in under 24 hours next Saturday.

Coun O’Donovan is raising money for St Paulinus Parents’ Group, which hopes to fund a new study club for Year 6 pupils. He will be undertaking the challenge with his friends Wasim Hussain and Starr Zaman, who are both raising money for local mosques.

The men have been donated a minibus by the Hamara Centre in Leeds which will drive them between the mountains.

Coun O’Donovan said: “The three of us have already done the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and so we now wanted to go on and do something that was an even bigger challenge.

“It’ll be tough but we’re prepared for it.”
