CRASH: A police car and van collided during a chase yesterday.

TWO police cars were damaged during a car chase through Mirfield.

The drama began yesterday when officers spotted a stolen van driving on Huddersfield Road at 11.45am.

Police tried to stop the van, but it and a police car collided before the van drove away.

The van was then in collision with a second police car near Doctor Lane. The driver then ran away.

Valerie Firth was waiting at a nearby bus stop at the time. She said: “They’ve taken the police car off all smashed up.”

Witness Phil Smith said: “Once they had stopped, there must have been around 10 to 15 police, one fire crew and the police helicopter circling above.”

Police said the van had been stolen in South Yorkshire earlier this week.
