Trains running through Dewsbury, Batley, Mirfield, Ravensthorpe, Morley and Cottingley were affected, but services resumed at 9.19am.

But delays of up to 45 minutes are still expected until 1pm today.

The body was spotted on the line by a train driver between Dewsbury and Batley.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP Officers attended Dewsbury Railway Station, West Yorkshire, on Wednesday December 31 to a report of a body struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP attended the incident, which was reported to police at 8.20am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious. Paramedics attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
