MORE than 400 people enjoyed 60 free boat trips along Mirfield’s waterways at the weekend.

The Safe Anchor Trust holds open weekends seven times each year, offering free boat trips up and down the River Calder.

The trust was established in 1995 to give people with special needs access to the waterways. It has been running the open days, for all people, for five years.

Trustee Les Moss said: “It was a way of showing our gratitude to the area, by making sure we did something for the local community.”

The next open days will be on Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3 at Shepley Bridge Marina, Huddersfield Road.
