VOTING TIME Help decide who wins a MyMirfield Award.

Thousands of votes have been cast in the first MyMirfield Awards – and there’s only a week left to vote if you’ve not had your say.

The awards received scores of nominations for local businesses, organisations and events to receive the recognition for the part they play in making Mirfield a great place to live.

But boiling down the nominations to just three in each category was a tortuous process for the awards’ organiser, who found it difficult to leave out some of the entrants from the final shortlist.

Richard Hartley, who set up the awards, said: “There were more than 120 different retailers, businesses, organisations and events nominated for the awards.

“It was both warming to read the comments, and also frustrating knowing we had to create a shortlist.

“But in the end the decisions became easier as many of those with the most number of nominations also had the most community-based reasons attached to them.”

“We wish to thank everyone who nominated - and to encourage everyone who didn’t make the shortlist, to keep up the good work for 2016.”

The winners will be revealed during an awards night at Dewsbury District Golf Club in Mirfield on April 17.

The event will include a ‘posh’ raffle and auction for which donations would be welcome.

Proceeds will be split between Mirfield cyclist Jake Womersley – the grandson of Tour de France legend Brian Robinson – and MyMirfield, which will use its share on events like the late night shopping sessions it helped to co-ordinate last Christmas.
