A spate of distraction burglaries targeting elderly and vulnerable victims has hit Heckmondwike.

Police say the incidents - two which are linked and one which could be linked - centre around the Fountain Street area of the town.

Wallets and money have been stolen from victims under the guise of the suspect asking people if they want gardening work carried out.

The suspect is described as a white male, around 5’6, with dark hair and wearing a blue checked shirt.

His age is unknown.

Detective Inspector Steph Wiseman, of Kirklees CID, said: “Please be really careful if people approach you and ask if you want them to do work, do not let them into your house.

“Ask to see identification and don’t be afraid to say you don’t want them in your house.”

Anyone with information should contact Kirklees CID via 101.
