A woman who is raising money for people who are hard of hearing was inspired by one of her closest friends.
Francesca Smith, 22, is running the London Marathon on April 21st for charity Action On Hearing Loss. She has never run a marathon before, but wanted to do something for the charity after it helped her friend Sarah Marshall cope with her own hearing problems.
“You don’t know how hard it is when you take hearing for granted,” Miss Smith, of Spring Place Court, Mirfield, said.
“Sarah started feeling really upset about it, then she found Action On Hearing Loss online and just from reading the website she felt a lot more comfortable with it.”
Miss Smith grew up in Liversedge and Ms Marshall lives Gomersal. The pair went to Whitcliffe Mount School.
“I run quite a lot anyway but I’ve never done anything as steep as 26 miles,” she said. “I’m not really that worried about actually doing it – it’s just the weather at the moment makes it difficulty to get out for training.”
