STAFF and governors at Mirfield's Castle Hall School have vowed to fight Kirklees Council's closure plans, announced last week.
On Tuesday the school held a meeting for parents to discuss concerns that brochures on the proposals would not reach them before a consultation at the school next week.
Addressing a crowded hall, headteacher Andy Pugh assured parents rumours of a
n imminent school closure were untrue.
He said: "Castle Hall is here for another five years and I'm very optimistic it will be for a lot longer than five years as well. We're going to state our case on our merits and talk about what we as a school are most proud of.
"Everything we're being told as headteachers is that the consultation is a real consultation and views will be listened to. It's really important everyone makes their voice heard."
He urged all parents and the community to go to the consultation drop-in at the school on Monday, 3.30pm-8pm, or on November 6, 3.30pm-8pm.
Chairman of the governors Brian Nicholson told parents governors were unanimous in their opposition to the plans. He said: "We want to fight these proposals as strongly as we possibly can. I think certainly they've made the wrong decision and it's the wrong proposal that's come out."
He said the response from parents so far had been fantastic. He said: "If we get the response from the whole of Mirfield that I believe we will, they're going to find it very difficult to bulldoze this through."
