The new season began for the Dewsbury Rams as the last one ended with them running out comprehensive winners.
However, their victory in the Northern Rail Cup first group game was hard-fought but a fine reward for the groundstaff, who ensured the match went ahead.
The Rams will be looking to more match practice, yet they always looked secure from the moment Rob Spicer touched down between the posts after just three minutes and Pat Walker added a simple conversion.
Following this early try both sides took time to settle with the Rams passing and handling errors preventing them from adding to their lead.
Despite this the impressive forwards Keegan Hirst and Anthony England were always pushing the Skolars back and the cohesion was back in the 18th minute. Rob Lunt, on as a sub for half-back Walker, scored the Rams second try with Brambani successfully taking over Walker's kicking duties.
The Rams took control as Mike Emmett powered over between the posts and Brambani duly converted.
Hard-working winger Bryn Powell then went over in the right corner following a flowing move, again involving Brambani, who was unable to convert
Three minutes later the Rams were in again in the right corner after good work from Spicer led to centre Scott Turner going over for the Rams third try in 10 minutes. Brambani missed the conversion and he was again wide of the mark after debutant Scott Watson scored in the right corner.
The Skolars had battled hard despite the scoreline and the fight was led by substitute Lamont Bryan. After a rare spell of pressure for the Skolars, Bryan squandered a chance to claim a try before half-time.
The Rams regained possesion and man-of-the-match Adam Robinson ran 30 yards to score and extend the Rams half-time lead to 34-0
The second half began in much the same fashion as the first with missed passes and penalties being given away by both sides.
The Rams resumed scoring after 52 minutes with full-back James Haynes getting in on the act following a clever pass from Spicer. Turner took over the kicking duties and landed the conversion before Lunt went over in the left corner for the Rams' ninth try and Turner again added the extras.
Andy Bostock completed the Rams scoring but the conversion was again missed.
The Skolars claimed a consolation try when bright sub Smokie Junor scored in the left corner.
Tempers frayed in the final minute following an incident involving London hooker Liam Prescott and Dewsbury's England. Prescott was stretchered from the field and both were sent off. Skolars second row Matt Carter was also sent off for his involvement in the brawl.
It was a sour end to an otherwise satisfying Rams display.
