DEWSBURY Celtic’s foray into the Carnegie Challenge Cup ended at the first hurdle when they suffered defeat by the British Police at Shaw Cross last Sunday.

Celtic produced an impressive first half display and fully deserved to be level at 16-16 at half-time.

James Halmshaw ran in a brace of tries, while former Thornhill Trojans man Scott Dyson was in terrific form at stand-off.

Dyson was at the hub of Celtic’s best moves and he scored the other try and landed two goals to earn his side’s man-of-the-match award.

Celtic, who had not played since their season ended last September, ran out of steam in the second half as the Police ran in 32 unanswered points to reach the second round, where they will entertain Leeds Met on the weekend of February 13 and 14.
