DEWSBURY Rams have warned supporters to obtain their tickets quickly for the Carnegie Challenge Cup tie against Super League Bradford Bulls at Tetley’s Stadium on Sunday, April 18.

The club hope to have some tickets available at Sunday’s game agai
nst Featherstone Rovers to speed matters.

The ground capacity is 3,000 but it is hoped to gain permission for it to be increased to 4,000.

The threat to Dewsbury supporters is under a deal arranged by the Rugby Football League, all clubs were given a certain amount of money as compensation before the competition started for season ticket holders to get free admission to their club’s first tie, so Bradford season ticket holders can claim free tickets.

The Bulls will receive 1,000 free tickets initially but they have more than 6,000 ticket holders.

Dewsbury season ticket holders had the chance for free tickets against Drighlington last Sunday.

The club is now urging all fans to buy their tickets quickly because if the home supporters hold back, Bradford will be able to obtain a further allocation.

Already Bradford supporters, who do not have season tickets, have been in touch with the Rams wanting to order them and the club have taken names and phone numbers.

Dewsbury chairman Mark Sawyer said: “It’s some time since we had a big match of this nature but the only way we can obtain extra funds is by selling our own allocation. If our supporters move quickly and take up their allocation we can obtain more but if they don’t we shall have to send more to Bradford.

“We have a good working relationship with the Bulls and want things to work smoothly but supporters must realise they can’t hold back until just before the game.”

The tie means Rams’ coach Warren Jowitt comes up against the club for which he played with some distinction for some years. He said: “I’m a good friend of their coach Steve McNamara, we played together at the Bulls for around seven years.

“When the draw came out I texted him and said ‘What do you think about that?’ He replied: ‘Hmmm...interesting.’ I hope we can make it more than interesting for him.

Bradford don’t seem to like coming to our place and we make them struggle in the pre-season games, it should be a great day.”
