THE Trojans slipped back into the bottom three of the National Conference First Division as Mayfield won comfortably to move above them in the table.

There was a big effort by Liam Morley at stand-off but Thornhill rarely
looked like gaining a third successive league win.

They were never really in the game and things could have been worse as they trailed 24-0 at the break.

The home side were well led by Australian scrum-half Eamon Hillen, whose signing has played a big part in their recent revival, and he made light of the heavy going to lead many of their attacks.

Mayfield are now a point ahead of the Trojans but have played two games more and five teams are separated by only two points in the scramble to avoid the relegation spot.

lost 26-12 at home to leaders Selby Warriors.

Selby soon led 10-0. Trojans began making ground, fluent passing by half-backs Josh Clough and Brett Simmons, freed centres Liam Hickling and Ryan Tinker.

Good tackling from wingers Reece Hadden, Macauley Goodward and full-back Luke Palmer kept Selby at bay.

Acting half Luke Carter provided some terrific distribution and set up a flowing move which was halted just short. Danny Parry passed out of the tackle for Liam Briggs to power over. Palmer’s goal made it 10-6 at half-time.

Forwards Jake Hickling and James Poskitt made the hard yards. A strong break by Midus Bendikas sent Parry between the posts. Palmer converted.

Josh Lister, making his debut, had a sound game and will be a great asset but the Trojans tired and Selby scored three late tries.

MoM was Parry for his strong defence and smart offloads. Special mention to Clough whose leg tackling was first class.
