Dewsbury Moor boxer Tony Aitcheson admitted it was good to be back in the ring following his points victory over Nathan Capeness in Leeds last Friday.

Aitcheson’s first professional bout was against Karl Taylor in Bolton in May 2009 but he returned last Friday on the undercard to Josh Warrington’s English featherweight title clash against Jamie Speight.

Speaking after his second professional victory, Aitcheson said: “It was a brilliant atmosphere and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

“I felt I could have performed a bit better and could have been a little calmer but I wanted to put a show on and I think we all had a good time .

“I got the win and got a knockdown so it was all alright.”

Aitcheson, who fights out of the Central Boxing Club in Batley, under the tutorage of Julian McGowan, knocked Capeness down in the final round with a vicious right left combination.

The 23-year-old added: “Ive been trying to work on combinations instead of just single shots and I caught him and then hit him again to make sure he went down.

“He was three-quarters of a stone heavier than me and he was a strong tough kid who came to win

“I could have had an easier fight for the first one back but I don’t like easy ways.

“The build up was exhausting with the pressure of my first fight back but I didn’t want to blow myself out.

“I was so excited before and just wanted to get into the ring but it was zapping me of energy

“I don’t want people to say I’ve had it easy, I want to fight the best and beat the best to become the best.”

He added: “That was a tough fight but I came out on top and got the knockdown so I’m happy.”

Former undefeated super middleweight world champion Joe Calzaghe (@RealJoeCalzaghe) tweeted Aitcheson after his success, saying: “@Boxertony1 Congrats on your win mate!! :))”

Good friend, Castleford Tigers forward Keith Mason (@maso106) added: “Well done to my boy the dewsbury moor sniper!! @Boxertony1 congrats bro still undefeated”
