Great Scott wields axe as Lees cut down sorry Woodman

ONLY a few games went ahead in the Heavy Woollen Sunday League last weekend after many fixtures were postponed due to pitch closures.

However, Thornhill Lees were pleased to see their Challenge Cup first round tie go ahead as they celebrated a 7-2 win over Woodman Batley Carr.

Scott Hargreaves led the scoring with four goals while Elliot Williams, Lee Bennett and Aidan Schofield also got onto the scoresheet.

Woodman replied through Andrew Pickles’ brace and an own goal.

In the only Challenge Trophy tie to go ahead, Birkenshaw Reserves won 3-1 at Railway East Ardsley.

Joel Farrar (2) and Lee Brook scored for Reserves while the hosts registered through an own goal.

In the Championship, Birstall St Patrick’s moved up to sixth following an exciting 5-4 win over Gomersal.

Scot Minto and Darren McDonald scored two apiece and Craig Metcalfe added a crucial fifth for the hosts. Jack Newsome (2), Andy Kaye and Jordan Midwood netted for Gomersal.

Northorpe United moved nine points clear at the top of Division One with a 5-2 triumph at Bay Horse East Ardsley.

Chris Meesam (3), Patrick Davies and Adam Nicholls won it for United while Joe Bedford and Steve Day scored for Bay Horse.

Ben McArdley grabbed four as Heckmondwike Sports Club eased to a 6-0 win over Punch Bowl. Nathan Willoughby and Mark Claughton completed the rout.
