Heckmondwike GS take derby spoils

BATELIANS Reserves slipped to 10th place in Division Three of the Yorkshire Old Boys League following a 6-2 derby defeat at home to Heckmondwike GS last Saturday.

Rob Wilson continued his fine scoring form for Batelians as he bagged a brace but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat as Heckmnondwike moved six points above their rivals in eighth place.

James Birkenshaw led the way for Heckmondwike as he struck four goals, while Andy Robinson and Dave Blackley also scored.

There was better news for Batelians first team as they got their promotion push back on track in Senior B Division with a hard-fought 2-1 win at bottom side Centralians.

Batelians went into the game on the back of a five-match losing run but first half goals from Joe Jagger and Richard Spink put them in control.

Centralians, who have only taken five points from nine games, replied with an 85th minute goal but Batelians hung on for an important victory which keeps them second in Senior B.

They are three points behind league leaders Leeds Medics and Dentists Reserves and one ahead of third placed Bramley Juniors having played two games more than both their promotion rivals.

Norristhorpe lie third in Division Four, seven points behind leaders Colton Thirds with two games in hand after they returned from bottom side Sandal Athletic Reserves with an 8-3 victory.

Norristhorpe took just six seconds to open the scoring and although Colton equalised, the visitors went 3-1 ahead and led 4-2 at half-time.

Norristhorpe scored first after the break and although Colton added a third, the visitors hit three more without reply to run out comfortable winners and keep their promotion push very much on track.

Danny Gannon led the way for Norristhorpe with a hat-trick, there was a brace apiece for Daz Smith and Steve Alderson, while Mick Carter also struck.
