Moorlands CC received the Drakes Huddersfield League Conference championship trophy before last week’s game against Denby.

The Mirfield side clinched the title a couple of weeks ago and are now looking forward to competing in the Championship section next season — one division below the Premiership.

It is the second successive title for Moorlands, who won the Central Yorkshire League Division One crown in 2012 before switching to the Huddersfield League.

Moorlands clinched a 14th win of the season, thrashing Denby by 169 runs having received the Conference championship trophy.

It could be a double celebration for Moorlands as their second team have also clinched promotion and go into their final two games of the season level on points with Thongsbridge.

Chris Stott (63), Chris Lloyd (56), Andrew Fortis (48), Mark Battye (35) and captain Andrew Walker (27) all got among the runs against Denby as Moorlands racked up an impressive 273-9.

Upper Hopton recorded a five-wicket win over Higham to close in on promotion from the Huddersfield Central League Section A.

Hopton are top of the table with three matches remaining and face a potential title showdown against second placed Upperthong on the final day of the season.

Hopton stole a march on their rivals a fortnight ago when they defeated Horbury Bridge, while their promotion rivals were rained off.

Hopton stayed top of the pile last week when Asif Nawaz returned excellent figures of 6-34 to help dismiss Higham for 114 off the last ball of their innings.

Mohammed Ikram hit 45 in reply and Hopton completed a five-wicket win when captain Richard Wood hit the winnings runs to end six not out.

Mount moved back to the top of the Huddersfield Central League Premier Section last week.

Fakir Laher (77) led Mount to 230-8 in their match against Silkstone.

Riyaz Motala then claimed 4-34 as Silkstone were bowled out for 180 and Mount sealed a vital six points.

Mount have three games remaining to clinch the title and travel to Green Moor on Saturday.
