Shaw Cross Sharks and Dewsbury Celtic warmed up for Saturday’s mouthwatering National Conference League derby with victories.
The Sharks overcame Millom 38-18 last Saturday as they moved up to seventh place in Division One, while Celtic ended their nine-match winless run with a 29-18 victory over fellow strugglers Saddleworth Rangers.
Celtic beat Shaw Cross 26-25 on the opening day of the season, so the Sharks will be out for revenge and a big crowd is expected at Leeds Road to see the Dewsbury rivals clash (ko 2.30pm).
Shaw Cross led bottom side Millom 32-0 at one stage and although the home side fought back with tries from Gareth Heasley, Ian Armstrong and substitute Dane Kelly, together with three Ross Brooks goals, the Sharks did enough to come away with a confidence boosting victory.
Ross Roebuck led the way with two tries and three goals, while Ben Spaven and Daniel Flowers also crossed for a brace of tries apiece, with Darrell Olpherts and Ryan Chalkley the other scorers.
Celtic moved level on seven points with Saddleworth and are just three behind the Sharks following their win over Rangers.
Anthony Dunford scored a hat-trick of tries for Celtic, with Matty Sheridan, Joshua Knowles and Thomas Norris also crossing.
Sheridan and leading Celtic points scorer Pat Foulstone added goals, with Andrew Bates ensuring victory with a drop goal.
Josh Bradbury scored a try and kicked three goals for Saddleworth, with Benjamin Lloyd and Gareth Morgan also crossing.
