SHAW Cross Sharks U14s saw off the challenge of Heworth in an excellent 30-18 home win.

Sharks broke the deadlock through Declan Sheehan’s try and Wright’s conversion and they turned the screw with scores from Mitchell Firth and Scott Carter, both goaled by Benson.

Heworth fought back but Isaac Haley’s score, improved by Benson, gave the hosts some breathing space before Nathan Wright touched-down and Benson landed the goal. Thomas Shaw was man of the match.

Sharks under-13s did just enough to vanquish Doncaster Toll Bar 38-24. Schofield’s late try and Richardson’s touchline goal rounded-off a fine team display in which Powell was man of the match.

Shaw Cross under-8s Tiger Sharks always trailed at Newsome Panthers but put in a huge effort. Nathan Littlewood was the opposition man of the match while Oliver Boocock and Archie Dufton shared the parents and coaches’ awards.

Birstall Vic under-9s ran in five tries in their home clash with Featherstone Lions. Player of the match Joe Frain completed a hat-trick while Luke Hutchinson and Connor Dawson also scored.
