The British super featherweight title fight between Gary Sykes and Manchester’s Jonny Kays has been confirmed for Saturday May 24 at Dewsbury Sports Centre.
It will be the first time championship boxing has been hosted in the town and the first professional show in Dewsbury since 2001.
Victory for Sykes would see him win the coveted Lonsdale belt outright and it is sure to be an historic night.
Sykes’s Central Boxing Club stablemate, unbeaten professional Tony Aitcheson, is also set to feature on the bill.
Ian Wardle, Dewsbury Sports Centre operations manager, said: “Dewsbury Sports Centre are very proud to be hosting this prestigious event. It’s going to be a historic night for Dewsbury and hopefully a great night for Gary too.
“We haven’t had the ticket selling arrangements confirmed by the promoter yet but as soon as we do we’ll publish details at www.kirkleesactive.co.uk/dewsbury and via Facebook and Twitter.
“We’ll also be keeping everyone updated via the Dewsbury Reporter.”
Both boxers will be selling tickets, along with the sports centre and fans should contact @GarySykesBoxer via Twitter.
