A LANDSCAPE photographer has his sights set on a prestigious national award and inclusion in a London exhibition.

David Speight has made it through to the final round of judging in the Take a View Landscape Photographer of the Year awards for the fourth year in a row.

The father-of-two entered around 15 images for the competition, but it was his photograph looking down the 199 steps and across Whitby harbour which was chosen by judges to go through to the final round.

The awards run every year and crown an overall winner, as well as handing out prizes in four categories.

David, 40, who grew up in Mirfield and now lives in of Bradford Road, Birstall, has had success competition success before. He won the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority Best Image in 2009 for a black and white photograph of Watlowes Dry Valley near Malham Cove.

The overall winner will receive £10,000, with category winners each receiving £1,000.

The competition’s winning entries will be showcased at an eight-week exhibition at the National Theatre in London, from November 12 to January 12.

All the winning photographs along with a selection of the other best entries, will also be published in full colour in the book, Landscape Photographer of the Year Collection 6.

Competition winners will be announced on October 29.
