Improvements are earmarked at Dewsbury Station and in the area of the library along with a pedestrian subway, public art, new lighting in the Kingsway and Queensway arcades, and investment at 15 Union Street to make a “creative hub”. In total £750,00 will be spent.
Dewsbury Arcade and Huddersfield’s George Hotel will share in a further £1.9m, with work getting underway next year.
Coun Peter McBride, the council’s regeneration champion, said the £600,000 being allocated towards Dewsbury Arcade represented a major contribution towards refurbishment costs.
