PHOTO SPECIAL: Cleckheaton businesses turn the town pink to raise money for breast cancer

Organised by owners of The Loft on Northgate, Dee Brown and Billie Burch, the music venue teamed up with several other bars, pubs and businesses in the area to raise money for the Breast Cancer Now charity, which provides research and care for people affected by the disease.

Each venue hosted events for Turn Cleckheaton Pink from Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22, with people encouraged to wear the vibrant colour.

The Loft’s own designated events included a country music show, performed by Steve James, on the Friday, while Low Moor indie band Fireproof took to the stage on the Saturday, followed by an after party with DJ Grey.

1924, on Albion Street, had a drag queen act on the Saturday night who was wearing her best pink dress and the Station Tavern pub had a band on, while The Chain Bar, on Cheapside, also had live music and pink drinks on offer.

The town’s Spen Tap and Sam’s Gin Bar also raised money for the cause, while in Scholes at The Walkers Arms, a special karaoke night was held where people donated to sing. A raffle also took place where local businesses had donated prizes.

Liversedge Football Club and The Butty Shop also took park in October’s extravaganza.

Dee told the Reporter Series: “It has been absolutely amazing to see Cleckheaton venues pull together to raise money for breast cancer care and everyone in pink over the weekend.

“We at The Loft are very happy with the community spirit that has been on show and we have enjoyed working with other businesses in the town.

“We have all been supporting each other as we all know that working together helps the town to thrive.

“We just wanted to turn the town pink for the weekend to raise awareness, and money, for a good cause - and that is exactly what we did. We are still collecting for a final total but we hope that it will make a difference.”
