Positive coronavirus case at Dewsbury school as pupils are sent home

Pupils at a Dewsbury school have been sent home after a positive case of coronavirus.

Westborough High School has confirmed the case and it has seen several of its pupils to self isolate.

In a statement on the school's website Headteacher Jennifer Napper said: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of coronavirus case.

"We know that you may find this concerning, but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England," she wrote.

"The small number of children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case will have received an individual text and follow-up letter and will be staying at home for 14 days."

She did did not specify whether the positive test result was by a member of staff or pupil.

Westborough High School would remain open for the time being the head teacher confirmed.

She added: "If your child develops symptoms of Covid-19, they should not come to school and should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared."
