Colourful spring in store as designer predicts move towards bold schemes

Miller Homes said Jeanette Holmes predicts individuality with bold, rich colours will make an impact this year.

She said: “One overwhelming trend is the desire to make houses into homes with a return to individuality and creativity rather than the minimalistic looks favoured in recent years. Our homes will welcome contrasts in fabrics and textures and will play host to a palette of warm and rich colours as we inject personality into our colour schemes.”

Popular colours will include rich reds, vibrant oranges and deep blues, all of which can be utilised in complete new room plans or used to accessorise existing schemes in neutral shades.

“Creating a stylish and wonderfully welcoming home doesn’t have to mean spending a fortune,” said Jeanette. “Display things that have some meaning to you and bring in new colours with a few well placed cushions, fresh flowers and accessories in your chosen colour. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you can change the look of a room.”

For those who are starting from scratch Jeanette is also seeing a shift towards carpets in living rooms instead of wooden floors, more traditional fabrics such as tweed, tartan, checks and stripes and is tipping subtle shades of yellow and grey to be popular this spring giving much inspiration to homeowners everywhere.
