100% of new mums praise Baby Cafe health visitors in Kirklees

Locala Community Partnerships, which runs the drop-in advice clinic at Staincliffe and Healey Children’s Centre, has been awarded the highest level of accreditation under the Baby Friendly Initiative scheme.

The decision means families can be confident of receiving the best possible information and advice about feeding their infants based on a global assessment framework.

One hundred per cent of Kirklees parents with babies under two months old said they felt supported by their health visitor, well above the pass threshold of 80 per cent. Locala’s infant feeding leads Nicola Duncanson and Ciara Schofield have thanked staff and service users for their hard work during the BFI assessment period, which also found the Baby Cafes rated highly on their clinic setting, policies and procedures, and praised the role of breastfeeding peer support volunteers in helping other new mums.

“If it wasn’t for the support I’ve had and being able to come here I wouldn’t be breastfeeding now. It’s great that the team has been recognised for the work they put in,” said Baby Cafe user Ann Hall.

“The professional support and being able to talk to other mums helps so much. I had so many questions but that’s OK – everyone is so friendly,” added fellow mum Kim Tate.

Locala runs Baby Cafe and Baby Bistro sessions across Kirklees on behalf of the NHS.
