Armed police called to train station after reports of a man with a shotgun

Armed police were called to Mirfield station yesterday afternoon after receiving reports of a man with a shotgun.

Police received a call shortly after 6.15pm yesterday to a reported sighting of a man with a firearm outside Mirfield Railway Station.

Armed officers arrived at the station and a 27-year-old man was stopped and a search was made of a silver Vauxhall Astra parked in nearby Newgate.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.

A baseball bat and a number of wraps of suspected cannabis were seized from the vehicle.
