Art buyer goes missing after Mirfield exhibition

WE’VE all heard stories of famous works of art going missing – but what do you do when a buyer disappears?

Organisers of Mirfield Team Parish’s 39th Annual Exhibition and Sale of Art are trying to track down one of the event’s guests.

The mystery man in question bought one of the photographs on show at St Mary’s Community Centre two weekends ago.

But for some reason, the anonymous art-lover never returned to the venue to collect his purchase.

Exhibition organiser Pat Wilding said: “I’ve headed this event for a good number of years and this is the first time this has happened.”

The artwork in question was a photograph taken by art student Alex Ialousis, aptly entitled Lost.

It was purchased for the asking price of £14 and the buyer was told he could either collect it before the exhibition closed on Sunday June 17, or the following Monday afternoon.

“The young man that exhibited it was absolutely thrilled to bits that one of his pictures had been sold,” Mrs Wilding said.

Now, however, the photograph is sitting at Mrs Wilding’s house in Beechwood Avenue, Mirfield, waiting to be collected.

Mrs Wilding said the buyer could still arrange to collect the photograph by calling her on 01924 498290.
