Awards are flowing in for pubs and clubs in our district.

Hartshead Club scooped the Club of the Year runner-up accolade from the Campaign For Real Ale’s Heavy Woollen branch for the second year running.

The club, which is run by Rob and Emma Donnely, has four hand pumps on the bar and offers a number of craft ales.

And in Gomersal, the West End pub won CAMRA’s Heavy Woollen Spring Pub of the Season award.

It is run by Janette and Andy English, who have owned the popular pub for 13 years.

Branch chairman Andy Kassube said: “The success that Andy and Janette have achieved is even more deserved considering that this was the first pub they have ever run but their commitment and ideas have given them this.

“The pub has had numerous nominations for the award over the last three years such is the quality of consistency of its beers but it finally managed to beat all its competitors this quarter.”

The pub in Latham Lane dates back to the 18th century. It serves four real ales including Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, Sharps Doom Bar, Ossett Silver King and a regular changing guest.

Both award certificates were presented by Mr Kassube.
