Bin collections days and times will change across Kirklees from Monday.
In a bid to save £500,000, Kirklees Council, refuse will only be collected for four days a week across the district from September 7.
Bins will be collected from Monday to Thursday and the crews will work longer hoursduring over those days – so the time bins are collected will also be affected.
Because some people have raised concerns that they face weeks between green or grey bin collections during the change period, Kirklees Council have said that – for next week only – excess waste will be taken if it is bagged up properly
Coun Cathy Scott, Cabinet Member for Housing and the Relief of Poverty, said that the changes need to be made to achieve twin goals of improving service overall and meeting financial targets.
She said: “We have looked at best practice elsewhere and worked with industry bodies like WRAP and APSE to develop the new delivery model.
“In the past we have resisted changing bin days for residents. Over time new estates and properties are added to rounds that unbalance them. We are now at a point where we need to deliver the most efficient service.”
Teams will be collecting from 7am, so residents are asked to make sure their bins are out early.
People are also asked to take their bins back onto their property as soon as possible after they have been emptied by crews.
Whereas bins have been collected on Fridays as part of the old system, that day will now be reserved for vehicle maintence.
The council have warned that bins which are so full that the lid does not close will not be taken from properties.
Until Friday, September 5, waste and recycling bins will be collected on the usual dates.
All residents of Kirklees should have received a letter from the council by August 28 telling themthe date of their collection and which colour bin to put out when the changes start from Monday.
Green bins are suitable for newspapers and magazine, junk mail and envelope, cardboard, telephone directories, books with hardbacks removed, plastic bottles, drink cans, food tins and empty aerosol cans.
