Birstall woman’s rooftop bike ride raised £700 for children’s hospice

Hayley Brown, from Birstall, represented Yorkshire and raised almost £700 for Kirklees children’s hospice Forget Me Not by taking part in a stationary bike ride from the roof of HQ of Heart FM broadcaster Global.

She said: “It is something close to my heart. My daughter, Laila, who has cerebral palsy goes to the hospice for respite care and sleeps there once a month.

“I host coffee mornings there for mothers who have lost their children and who have children with disabilities.

“But this was a spur of the moment thing. I don’t work out. My only workout is pushing a heavy wheelchair!”

Hayley, 35, lost her son, Kai, 12 years ago.

“If the hospice had been open then he would have been able to go there,” she said.

She said there was an amazing atmosphere on the day while the 22-person ride was broadcast to more than a million listeners.

“It was a great event and a great day. And my daughter Kyla was really proud.

“I have told Forget Me Not that I will do anything for them except a bungee jump or a skydive.”
