Budding actor films on Dr Who set

He quickly opted to take on the persona of legendary time lord Dr Who for a monologue he hopes will get him noticed in the future.

And the short film will soon be going out to an internet audience.

Mr Jones, 20, has been doing walk-on TV roles and building up a showreel to professional standard.

The former Thornhill Community School student said: “I have always wanted to do a monologue and decided to write a Dr Who-inspired piece.”

Making the most of activities around the 50th anniversary of Dr Who last year, he persuaded the BBC to let him and a friend film for a day in the original set in Cardiff. He is also planning to borrow a Triumph replica - in tribute to Jon Pertwee’s motorbiking doctor - from a dealership to add other scenes.

Mr Jones, who works as a despatch rider, said: “It took a while to sort out using Cardiff as a backdrop, but the BBC really came good for us - they said it was unusual for them to agree to this kind of thing.”

In the monologue, Mr Jones plays a future incarnation of the doctor, using a number of Who-related scenes. An audio drama accompanies the film, which Mr Jones plans to put out on YouTube, Facebook and other media.

After walk-on roles in programmes such as Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Fresh Meat, Mr Jones hopes the new film will help him get other for acting roles.

He said: “You have to start somewhere. To hit the big time would be amazing, but basically I do what I do because I enjoy it. The Dr Who thing was fantastic to do.”
