Organisers have said that this years event will be bigger than ever.

They might sound like unusual job descriptions, but at Batley Festival they are essential tasks.

The festival is looking for local people to be part of the event, which this year takes place on Saturday, September 10.

Organisers say that this year’s event is set to be bigger than ever.

During the day, there will be a host of family-friendly and free activities for all to enjoy and volunteers are needed to work directly with professional artists to make them happen.

Volunteers can help create a giant colouring book in the police station car park, take a large yak puppet named Yeshe for a stroll or help navigate the calm waters in a large wooden Life Boat.

Kimberley Thirkill is chair of Batley Festival and says the volunteers are imperative to the staging of the event.

She said: “This year we have even more fun things for people to enjoy.

“It takes place right in the centre of Batley, which makes it a great day out for all.

“Volunteers are crucial to this and without the generosity of local people, who are willing to donate a few hours of their time, the event just wouldn’t exist.”

In addition, this year’s evening spectacular will be a special commission by internationally-renowned outdoor artists Periplum.

They have created an immersive cinema experience called The Batley Picture Show.

This will feature snippets of Batley life over the years (and a few surprises along the way).

Periplum are looking for 15 local people to join this company and be part of the professional show.

Participants will play a crucial role in the show, helping to create the ambiance on the night.

A spokesperson said: “No previous performance experience is necessary, just a willingness to be part of something truly spectacular.”
