Carlinghow schoolchildren learn about food waste

Carlinghow Princess Royal Junior and Infant School will host a free breakfast organised by the group, which takes food that would otherwise be thrown out to cook and be sold on a “pay-as-you-feel” basis, and Morrison’s.

Alison Killeen, from the school’s pastoral support team, said: “The aim of the free breakfast is to develop awareness of the vast amounts of ‘waste’ food which is thrown away from supermarkets and to appreciate the value of healthy nutritional food at breakfast time that can improve cognitive function.”

The Real Junk Food Project hosts drop-in sessions every Friday at the Sensory World Cafe in Old Westgate, Dewsbury, 5.30pm-8pm.

Branches of the group, both permanent cafes and pop-up events, were set in West Yorkshire by Adam Smith.

On Christmas Day the group held an event at the Sensory World Cafe, alongside volunteers to help homeless, lonely and needy people.
