Birstall in Bloom is back.

Green-fingered helpers have been tending to planters in the Market Place and near to the welcome stone thanks to the vital public fundraising that has enabled the project to continue.

Kirklees Council supplied a £500 grant from their It’s Up to You fund after their nursery facility in Huddersfield closed, and a race night raised a further £1,000 to purchase a watering trolley and other essential gardening equipment.

Fifteen designated gardens in the village centre have now been transformed from ‘grot spots’ into attractive, colourful floral displays to provide an attractive welcome for visitors.

Members of the public can also enter their own gardens into the annual competition, with submissions divided into nine categories depending on plot size. Entry forms can be collected from the library and organisers are hoping to attract new participants.

Around 20 of the most attractive gardens in Birstall will feature in the new Garden Trail event on July 17, which also includes a display of classic and modern sports cars from 11am-4pm. Visitors are welcome to pop along and admire the hard work of the town’s horticulturalists.

Garden Trail brochures and the latest Birstall in Bloom newsletter are now available from the library and selected shops.
