Charity auction tribute to Dewsbury soldier Corporal Jake Hartley

Friends and relatives of Dewsbury soldier Cpl Jake Hartley will raise money for good causes this weekend when they hold an event in his memory.

A charity auction and clubnight will be held at The Audio Club in Batley to raise funds for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Soliders of the Streets and Army of Angels.

Jake, 20, grew up in Dewsbury and was a former pupil at Earlsheaton Technology College. He was killed in Afghanistan in March while serving with 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment.

Lots at Sunday’s auction include a mountain bike, a signed Leeds Rhinos shirt and a meal for 10 in a Dewsbury Rams executive box.

An all-day party, featuring DJs who were friends with Jake, will be held on the club’s terrace as part of the event. Provisions will also be made for those wanting to see the Euro 2012 final.

Jake’s cousin Kate Walmsley, who is helping to organise fundraiser, said a charity event was perfect way to remember him.

She said: “The event is a chance to remember and celebrate Jake’s life and raise money for some brilliant causes that are close to the family’s heart.”

The event takes place at the club in Bradford Road on Sunday from 3pm. Entry is £5 on the door with extra donations welcome.
