Church cheque boost

A WELCOME boost for a revamp fund is being celebrated at a Dewsbury church.

The St John Lodge of Freemasons has handed over £1,000 to help restoration work at Thornhill parish church.

The money is being channelled towards the cost of lighting and a sound system – just part of an overall scheme costing £250,000.

The Halifax Road-based Lodge is keen to see better lighting and sound enhance the visitor experience at the church, especially for children.

Thornhill Rector the Rev Sue Clarke received the cheque on behalf of the church.

PCC secretary Tony Ridley said: “We are extremely grateful for all the grants and donations which have made it possible to improve lighting, sound and visual interpretation of this beautiful ancient building and its artefacts for the benefit of all who visit.”
