College receives top award

Kirklees College has been recognised with a top industry award for the quality of its art and design, media, music and performing arts courses.

The ‘Creative Industries’ team, as they are collectively known, received an Artsmark Gold Award from Arts Council England in recognition of the excellent teaching on offer at Batley School of Art and the college’s other premises across the area.

Among the criteria for the award is to be “forward thinking and open to development” and commit to investing in its staff and listening to its students.

The college’s Head of Creative Industries, Karen Matula, said: “This is a great accolade and demonstrates the expertise and experience of all our arts staff. It is high praise and reward for all of the hard work of the team and has helped forge tighter links with local schools and industry.

“As a team we have always looked for ways we can work with our local communities and this award demonstrates our commitment and our ability to deliver to a very high standard.”
