Concert to honour Batley star Dil Shaw

Dil Shaw passed away in August aged 66, having dedicated a large part of his life to music.

He supported the Rolling Stones and Roy Orbison before they were famous and toured clubs across the country – and now Mr Shaw’s son, daughter and even his granddaughter, aged six, will take to the stage to raise money in his name.

The concert will also feature a line-up of Mr Shaw’s friends and musical colleagues in a bid to raise money for Diabetes UK.

Sammy King, Leo Kenny, Paul Harper, Brenda Martine, Chrissie White, John E Harper and a host of other acts will take to the stage at Low Moor Working Men’s Club in Huddersfield Road for a night of entertainment and fundraising, compered by Mike Smith of Mike’s Carpets, who went to school with Mr Shaw.

Mr Shaw’s partner, Pat Dent, and local businesses have also donated raffle prizes for the fundraiser on Wednesday November 7, which begins at 8pm.

And with almost all of the tickets sold out, it seems the musician’s local celebrity status has brought the community out in force.

More than £500 was raised for Diabetes UK at Mr Shaw’s funeral and now his family hopes to add to the total.

His daughter Nicola said: “Me and my brother are performing and so is my daughter.

“She’s going to sing Venus by Bananarama – she used to sing it at the karaoke nights my dad did.”
