Congregation bids farewell to historic Kirklees church building

The final service at St Barnabas in Hightown took place last weekend, with plenty turning out for the occasion.

The church, which opened in 1893, will now link with St Peter’s at Hartshead after dwindling congregation numbers and a dilapidated building forced its closure.

John Hall, who attended the service last Sunday, said: “It was a very moving service.

“It was upsetting for the congregation but at the same time very uplifting with lots of memories shared.”
