Council urging people to '˜stay well this winter' in Kirklees

Kirklees Council, together with health partners including the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), are working to support a major drive by Public Health England and NHS England to help people ‘stay well this winter’.

The initiative aims to ensure all steps are taken to ensure those most vulnerable are protected.

This includes people who are eligible to take advantage of their free flu vaccine.

It also aims to offer tips and advice regarding safety, such as being aware of your surroundings during the darker months.

Councillor Viv Kendrick, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care at Kirklees Council, said: “We know that treacherous conditions during winter can mean many people, particularly the elderly and frail, are unable to get out and buy food or pick up medication and for some, there are no family or friends nearby.

“With this in mind, we’re asking people to look out for their vulnerable neighbours - to call in and say hello and to check if they need anything.”

Dr David Kelly, Chair of NHS North Kirklees CCG, said: “Winter is an extremely busy time of year for NHS services, so we want to remind people that if they are ill to use the right services.

“If you do need medical help but it’s not an emergency, please remember that you can ring NHS 111 for advice 24/7.”
