Batley man found guilty over M62 horror smash which killed his son an left wife in a coma

The crash, which happened on July 1, 2018, involved two Honda Civics which had engaged in a race on the M62.

Dashcam footage from another vehicle shows the cars were travelling at more than 100mph, less than 10 metres apart.

One of the cars, driven by Israr Muhammed, 41, contained a family of five, including two of Muhammed's children and his wife.

As a result of the crash, Muhammed's car suffered a "catastrophic blow", inducing oversteer and leaving the carriageway, before heading down the embankment into the trees.

His three-year-old son was killed in the crash, while his seven-year-old daughter suffered life-changing facial injuries. Their mother, Muhammed's wife, suffered multiple head injuries and internal injuries and was in a coma for over a month.

Muhammed, from Batley, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing death whilst uninsured.

The driver of the second vehicle, Adam Molloy, 29, from Normanton, failed to stop at the scene of the collision but was subsequently arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Their case was heard during a nine day trial at Hull Crown Court, which ended last week.

The jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict against both men on all counts.

Both drivers are due return to Hull Crown Court to be sentenced on Monday, November 2 2020.
