Trust in police will suffer if they are not more open with people in Mirfield.

That’s the warning from Coun David Pinder after the true scale of crime in our communities was revealed.

A Freedom of Information request by the Reporter found more than 1,500 crimes were reported in Dewsbury and Mirfield during April.

They included 63 violent offences, 41 burglaries, 22 drug offences, seven sexual offences and seven robberies.

The Force shared details of just two incidents without prompting from local media – neither took place in Mirfield.

Coun David Pinder said: “I accept the argument that you don’t want to raise people’s fear, but it actually reduces trust in them. People think the police are not being honest with us.”
