A MANUFACTURER’s proposal to build on green fields in Mirfield was approved by councillors.
Kirklees Council’s planning and highways committee unanimously voted in favour of David Brown’s plans for a centre of excellence for gear manufacture and a wind innovation centre on Mirfield Moor.
David Brown had said its current site in Lockwood was unsuitable for any further expansion.
It proposes keeping a third of its workforce on the existing site, and moving around 270 staff to the new premises in Mirfield.
Planning officers said between 100 and 150 new jobs will be created at the new site, while around 83 indirect jobs will be safeguarded via the supply chain.
Coun Andrew Pinnock (Lib Dem, Cleckheaton) said: “I don’t want to refuse this because its an important application, we have got to ensure David Brown retains employment within Kirklees.”
