Dementia sufferers offered support at new cafe sessions

BEING waited on hand-and-foot and afternoon tea are on offer for dementia sufferers and their carers.

The T&Co Dementia cafes started at the Taleem Centre in Savile Town this week.

Cafe coordinator Margaret Shaw said the cafes were based on a Betty’s tea room style and were a chance for people to relax, socialise and get waited on.

In Dewsbury there will be two groups, both of which will meet at the Taleem Centre in Orchard Street.

A men’s group will be held on the second Tuesday of the month, starting on October 11.

A women’s group will meet on the fourth Thursday of every month, starting on September 29.

Both cafes run from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, with a charge of £2.50 per person to cover refreshments and room hire costs.

As well as socialising, the cafes will offer a chance for dementia sufferers to find out about services that may be available to them.

There will also be guest speakers who will talk about issues affecting dementia sufferers.

The cafes will be run by staff from charity Leeds Housing Concern, with funding from Kirklees Council’s Community Partnerships.
