DENISE earns MBE for work with youngsters

A MIRFIELD woman has been awarded an MBE for her work with young people spanning two decades.

Denise Bedford, of Lower Hopton, was nominated for the award for her involvement with young people through Hopton UNited Reformed Church and the Boy's Brigade in Mirfield where she was captain in charge for 21 years.

Mrs Bedford, 39, has also worked for many years as a youth worker and is the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Officer employed full-time for Kirklees Council Young People's Service.

Over the past few years, due to her determination and hard work, she has improved the involvement of young people and schools in Kirklees in accessing the scheme and starting up new award centres.
