Designs brought to life on new banners

Two Batley schoolgirls have been rewarded for their exciting artistic designs which have been incorporated on the banners of the Friends of Batley Library Group.The youngsters, six year old Lily Mae Kennedy and nine year old Tegan Grant, were each given a £10 book voucher and a framed commemorative certificate by the Friends chairman, Simon Roadnight, at their school’s morning assembly.Several schools in the area had been asked if they could help design a logo for the Friends but only one – Batley Parish School in Stocks Lane – took up the challenge.And the Friends committee opted to reward Lily and Tegan for their artistic contribution not only with the money and certificates but by also incorporating their circular designs on the banners which will appear in the town centre and at various important events.Batley Parish School’s family liaison officer, Barbara Tomlinson said: “The school and the children were really keen to produce posters for the library as we are there every Monday for our Boggling Bookworm club.“We have promoted the library campaign in school and as it’s a valuable assett to us, it was very important that we, as a school, to support the library.The Friends of Batley Library committee was established earlier this year after the town’s library and its services was one of several in Kirklees to be threatened with closure.That threat has now been lifted but the ever expanding Friends are still providing volunteers for the library service.
