Dr Kohi loses brave battle

Farhad Kohi joined Mirfield Health Centre as a GP in 2001, rising to the position of senior partner – gaining the well-earned respect of the community along the way.

Born in Iran in 1962, Dr Kohi came to London as a 14-year-old to improve his English at a language school.

He then went to Perugia, Italy, to do his medical degree, even learning Italian along the way – a mark of the commitment and dedication he displayed throughout his career.

He qualified in 1993, returning to England and working for the NHS at a number of hospitals throughout the country.

Dr Kohi then moved to Mirfield and joined Mirfield Health Centre, where he remained until his retirement in April 2014 due to ill health.

It was there he met his colleague and future wife, Tracey.

The couple moved to Dr Kohi’s home in Knowl Road before settling at their home in Lee Green. The pair married in 2011, holding their wedding reception at home.

Dr Kohi took his work seriously and was very involved in the out-of-hours service, as well as taking on the role of vice chairman of the Clinical Commissioning Group.

When not working he was very much a family man, whether caring for his two daughters or chopping wood in the garden – a long-running family joke that Tracey said was her husband’s way of relaxing away from the pressures of work.

He fought bravely for 18 months against his illness, always trying his utmost to get better for his family.

His family wish to thank the staff at St James’s Hospital, Leeds, and also the staff at Kirkwood Hospice in Dalton for making his final days as comfortable and dignified as possible.

Dr Kohi was a loving father to his daughters – Rose, nine, and Ruby, six. He was also a stepfather to Tracey’s boys – Jim, 20, and Jack, 18.

Dedicated to his family and an exemplary GP, he will be dearly missed by his family, his patients and the wider Mirfield community.

Dr Kohi’s funeral will be held at Huddersfield Crematorium on Thursday February 19 at 12.30pm.

This will be followed by a gathering at Dewsbury Golf Club.
